Membership Application Process

Our application process requires a driving record, local criminal history check, fingerprinting, and an application form. Some records have a one-time, non-reimbursable fee.  Once your application and all required documentation are received, our Membership Committee will contact your provided references, and schedule a brief interview and provide you with next steps.

Driving Record

You will need to contact your state or local DMV for a copy of your driving record.

Virginia residents may obtain a copy of their driving record by submitting an online request, submitting a written request, or visiting a local customer service center. In 2024, Virginia DMV fees are $8-11; fees for obtaining required application documentation will not be reimbursed by YVFD.

For more information, visit https://www.dmv.virginia.gov/records/request-driver-vehicle-record.

Local Criminal History Record

Please visit your local police department and request a hard copy of your criminal record. Virginia code requires that these requests be made in person.

For more information, visit the website for the jurisdiction of your home address:

In 2024, fees for criminal record checks range from $5-10, depending on your residential jurisdiction; fees for obtaining required application documentation will not be reimbursed by YVFD.

Fingerprinting (facilitates a Federal Criminal History Check)

  1. You will need to register in the Virginia Office of Emergency Medical Services (OEMS) system to create a 9 digit identifier unique to your subsequent fingerprint submission.
  • Virginia OEMS site - https://vdhems.vdh.virginia.gov/emsapps/f?p=200:16

  • When prompted for agency affiliation, search for and select “Yorkshire Volunteer Fire Department”

  • You will receive your identifier within a few days after the OEMS application is processed. Be sure to save this number, as you will need it for fingerprinting and future department training once you are a member.

  1. Once you have your VA OEMS number, create an account in the FieldPrint system and schedule a live fingerprint capture session.
  • FieldPrint VA Website - https://fieldprintvirginia.com/

  • Within FieldPrint you will need several codes/identifiers as part of the application:

    • FPV999NC (non-EMTs) or FPV1041C (if you are a VA EMT)

    • Agency License – 00085

    • VA OEMS 9 digit identifier from step 1

  • If this process is completed correctly, the results of your background investigation will be provided directly to Yorkshire VFD

For FieldPrint instructions or additional information, visit the following site and select "Certified Provider" if you are already an EMT, or "Non-Certified Member" if you do not yet have any certifications: https://www.vdh.virginia.gov/emergency-medical-services/regulations-compliance/fingerprinting/volunteer
