E508B Starts the Year with a HazMat IncidentSaturday January 1st, 2011

At 2315 hours, Company 1 units were dispatched for an ALS auto accident on Liberia Ave. Upon arrival, E501C discovered a box truck that had rear ended a van. After further investigation, E501C discovered that the box truck was leaking an unknown liquid. E501C's officer noticed that the substance was smoking upon contact with the ground. E501C then advised communications that the incident needed to be upgraded to a Hazardous Materials incident. E508B was dispatched as part of the HazMat compliment. E508B picked up E501C's line at the corner of Bretton Woods Dr. and Point of Woods Dr. E508B's crew then went to the command post and was tasked with establishing RIT. E508B maintained RIT while the crews from HazMat Support 506 and 516 identified the substance. After being released by command, E508B shut down water supply and was transferred to Station 1 Fire. E508B remained at Station 1F until 0105 hours, when Company 501's units began clearing the scene.

YVFD Pays Respects to Former ChiefTuesday January 4th, 2011

The Yorkshire Volunteer Fire Department regrets the loss of a former Chief of our department. Martin "Buddy" Huntington passed away on December 24, 2010.  He was the Chief of our department in the early 1970's.  Although he had not been a part of the department in many years, he still has active connections to the department via family and close friends.  YVFD chose to honor his life by presenting him with an Honorary Lifetime Membership.  Chief Deem, Asst. Chief Griffith, and other members of our department presented his family with a gold "Lifetime Member" badge.  Lifetime Member John MacInnis was a pallbearer.  Other members of the department brought Engine 508B to the funeral, draped in black fabric.
